Courtesy Visit to Ministry of Housing and Local Government, Malaysia

On 25th May 2009, a courtesy visit to YB Dato’ Seri Kong Cho Ha, Minister of Housing and Local Government was held at the Minister’s Office. The visit was attended by our Immediate Past President, YBhg Dato’ Michael Yam, our President, Mr. Yeow Yoon Foo, Deputy President, Mr. Ong Bok Siong and Regional  Administrator, Ms Audrey Chen.Apart from being a courtesy visit to network and to brief the Minister on the establishment and the roles of the Chartered Institute of Building , we highlighted to the Minister the important roles of the Chartered Builders in the implementation and production processes of the entire supply chain of the building process to improve, if not avoiding the prevailing weaknesses in the construction industry consequent to the many construction failures and defects found in projects recently; and the competencies of CIOB members in Construction Project & Contract Management. Arising from this visit, we are confident that the Ministry of Housing & Local Government through the Minister will now understand better of our members’ professional responsibility and competence in upholding the standards of the building process and the delivery system of the construction industry. We are encouraged and determined to continue to write to other construction related Ministries and Government Agencies for similar visits and dialogues.
